You can heal unresolved trauma from your past. You can learn new skills. One method of self-improvement that I like to encourage people to use is called a practice.
The concept of a practice is not at all new. Ancient religions such as Buddhism incorporate the concept of a practice into their teachings. The idea behind a practice is to expand one's awareness through intentionally emphasizing a behavior related to value-laden concept. A person can practice compassion or truthfulness.
If you find this topic interesting be sure to check out other articles on each one of the practice areas. The following areas will be covered courage, wisdom, respect, truthfulness, humility, generosity, love, compassion, and joy.
Overview of the 9 practices:
Read the following definitions of each of these nine concepts, which will later be discussed as practices. Ask your self the question? How satisfied am I with this aspect of my life? Give it a score between 1 and 10 with one being not satisfied at all and 10 being completely satisfied. Then ask yourself, how important is this aspect of life and give that a score from 1-10. As you read the upcoming material this year, you might want to focus on the areas that have a low first score and high second score.
