Freemasonry is a fraternity that emphasizes spirituality, morality, and brotherhood, among others. The usual goals of Masonry members are to improve themselves morally, and even spiritually, by meeting with other people who think and feel the same way. Freemasons actually consider each and every member as brothers, thus, the bonds and the secrets of the said organization are more often than not, tightly knit.
More and more men now want to learn how to become a mason. Some men may be interested because of the thirst for the secrets believed to be shared among members of the Masonic lodge. Others may aim to know how to join Freemasonry because they want to feel that they belong and maybe, they want to learn more about themselves, their missions in life, and so on.
Before you become a member of the Masonry, however, there are some requirements you have to meet. You should also expect to undergo the Masonic initiation ceremonies that each and every wannabe Freemason has experienced. Though there may be some requirements that are present in some Lodges and absent in others, the following are the most common requirements that you must possess if you really want to become a mason:
1. You have to be male.
The many books on Freemasonry will surely tell you that members of the said brotherhood are all men. Therefore, you have to be a man if you are interested in joining the Lodge. There are one or two organizations, however, that are connected to Masonic lodges that are said to be composed of women.
2. You should have a good reputation.
One requirement that you'll need to be aware of if you want to be invited to the Masonic initiation is this: your reputation should have no tarnishes. This means that you should have a good reputation, specifically because masons are required to uphold morality, spirituality, etc.
3. You should believe in God.
Another fact on how to join Freemasonry: you should believe in God. A person who does not have a belief in God will really be denied membership to the said secret society. Remember that one of the aspects of life that the brotherhood wants to improve on is spiritual in nature, thus, believing in God is a pre-requisite for one who wants to become a mason.
There are still other requirements of Freemason membership that people can read about in most books on Freemasonry. If you really want to take part in the Masonic initiation, you first have to contact Masonic lodges within your area. You may research over the Internet for Lodges near your home if you really want to become a mason. If you know someone who is a Mason, of course, it is best to ask him to point you to his Lodge.
