People who have lucid dreams are those who are aware that they are actually dreaming. For example, if you suddenly realize that the monster running after you is just a monster in your dream that means that you are lucid while you are dreaming, hence the term: 'lucid dreaming'. It may also be referred to as astral travel or astral-projection. To control the dream or dream whatever you want, it is best that you follow these astral projection techniques:
1. Research on the subject matter.
If you really are serious about wanting to experience the above mentioned kind of dream, you should take the time to learn about the subject. There are many books and resources available not only in your local bookstore, but also online, that will give you an overview on the subject and teach you tips and tricks of how to have lucid dreams.
2. Tell yourself over and over again before bedtime that you will be able to control the dream.
Another step you should take to dream whatever you want or become a lucid dreamer is to talk to yourself before you sleep and repeat over and over a positive and relevant statement such as: 'I will engage in lucid dreaming tonight'. Do this until you fall asleep and you may actually experience the kind of dreaming you want more easily.
3. Use the MILD strategy or the Mnemonic Induction Of Lucid Dreaming.
Included in astral projection techniques is the MILD technique wherein you'll let yourself be woken up by the alarm clock about 4 hours - 7 hours after you have fallen asleep. Once you wake up, do your best to recall what you have dreamt prior to awakening and then, tell yourself a few times that you'll know that you are dreaming when you dream again. Next, go back to bed and try to sleep and you can start to have lucid dreams.
4. Write your dreams in a diary or a journal.
To help you control the dream or dream whatever you want, one of the astral projection techniques you should employ is to actually keep a dream journal wherein you'll list down details such as: the date of your dream, the title (think of something short but sweet and easy to recall), the details you can remember e.g. who you were with, what you were doing, what your emotion was during that time, and so on. By writing on a dream diary regularly, it will be easier for your brain to recall the dreams, and also tell you patterns, the link between dreams and your reality, among others.
Being able to have lucid dreams is not only fun - it can also help you overcome fears, nightmares, come up with good solutions to certain problems, and so forth.
