There are a lot of families that would love to be better about their scripture study time. This article describes some small changes you may be able to make that can help you make that goal a reality.

Reading scriptures as a family can be very hard. There are many different reasons that families struggle with reading their scriptures together on a consistent basis and many of these reasons can be remedied very easily.

First, it is important to understand how important a consistent schedule is. There are a lot of people that have a hard time creating a consistent schedule for themselves because they feel that they will never be able to have the time to read scriptures.

When you are trying to make time to read scriptures, you should be sure that you make a list of everything that you do in a day. If you find that your day is completely booked, you can replace something that is not very important with reading your scriptures.

Prioritizing your life in this way is a great way to find time to read your scriptures. You may find that the thirty minutes of television that you are watching every day can be replaced by sitting your family down to read the scriptures.

As you are looking through your day you should be sure that you are also reasonable. You should not expect your family to dedicate a ridiculous amount of time to sitting down together and reading the scriptures.

Deciding what you believe is a reasonable amount of time every day to dedicate to this goal may help you as you are learning how to read daily. The more consistent that you are as you read the easier it will be to fall into a routine.

Second, you should make sure that you are taking time to make your scripture studying fun and exciting. When you have a wide age range of children this can be very difficult, but you want to make sure that you are smart about how you are engaging your children.

Finding different ways to make sure that each of your children is enjoying scripture study is a great way to be sure that your family actually wants to read scriptures. This can be a challenging endeavor but you want to be prepared to tackle it head on.

As you are trying to make the scriptures fun for everyone you may find that you read your scriptures differently throughout the week. This way they are able to learn the scriptures on many different levels.

Sometimes this may mean that you are not reading the scriptures but that you are watching a movie about a scripture story. Other times it may mean that you are reading a picture book that conveys a scripture story.

Whatever you can do to make sure that your kids are on board with the scripture studies you will want to do. Take the time that you need to be smart about incorporating different methods of studying so that everyone feels engaged and excited about what is happening.

Third, you should be sure that you do not stop your schedule just because someone is not there. As your children get older you will find that many of your teenagers are going every which way throughout the day.

Whether they are participating in extracurricular activities or they are busy with their friends it may be difficult to get everyone home at the same time to study. You want your kids to know that you are consistent with the family scripture study, even when they are not there.

This way, they know where they can go and what they are missing out on. When you make scripture study exciting for your kids you may find that they would rather be at home with you reading their scriptures.

There are some parents that believe they can force this type of material on their children. And although some children may not like what you are reading, you want to be sure that you are never forceful or threatening with this material.

The scriptures that you are reading should not be regarded in that light by your children. You want to be sure that they are excited about the studies and that they know studying is their own choice not a choice that you have already made for them.

Finally, you should be sure that you are taking the time that you need to be smart about your personal studies. Enriching your family studies by studying on your own can be a great way to make this time more interesting and beneficial for your family as you read.
