Is Satan real, is it he who we should blame for the atrocities we commit against one another? This question has been pondered for many a decade. There is an answer to it.
Satan's existence is discussed in the Bible. He is described as a hideous creature, evil as a result of having fallen from heaven. Let's get one thing straight right away. After all, if you don't believe in God it is unlikely you give credence to the Bible. If you are included in this group, forget about Satan, as the main source of his credibility is the bible.
Now let us presume you do believe in God and in the words of the Bible. You will find reference to Satan as a fallen angel and choose to believe this. You will also find that angels are children of the resurrection and cannot die. This is further explained in the Book of Romans as follows: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
You see, therefore, that Satan cannot have angelic powers as he cannot have been an angel. Just to follow the logic, remember that angels cannot sin. Any power that an angel would have, obviously was not available to Satan.
If that does not convince you, take a look around and see if you can find any real proof of Satan's existence. Do you know anyone who has seen Satan? Have you evern spoken with Satan? Have you ever found Satan's words in any book? Certainly not.
Satan, therefore has got to be no more than a figment in our imagination. That can be an extremely powerful place. It does not make sense to use our imagination to give power to something that does not exist. What we should do is rely on our own common sense.
Those who still hold onto the existence of Satan at one time will find that scripture tell us that all biblical prophecy has been completed. The historical evidence of this is found in the Roman-Jewish wars and the destruction of Jerusalem in the first century AD. The current existence of Satan is therefore impossible! Jesus made Satan's defeat known very clearly when He had said, "It is finished!" (John 19:30).
Our subborn side, however, wants us to think differently. We interpet what has happened to us in our lives using paradigms and we rely on them to frame our future. We do not question, we simply assume we have the right model. Now that we know Satan is not real, we cannot use him as an excuse for past or future misconduct. You can rely on what is known to be real, and that is a God who has proven himself. He has given us, through various communications, a paradigm that will work for our lives.
There is no one to blame (real or imaginary) for our misconduct other than our selves. We must accept responsibility for any wrongdoing that we freely do, and fight our own inner adversariy, which is greed and lack of faith.
